Artifact
About
An Artifact is an item which can be attached to Any Clothing and provides a bonus for one or more activities, this is known as "Slotting." As holding Artifacts is one of the most important functions of Clothing, Clothing that has more Slots is generally better than Clothing with less Slots.
How to Slot an Artifact
1. Inspect your Artifact. Each Artifact has a range of Difficulty, and next to that, two Proficiencies.
- Difficulty is how hard the Artifact is to Slot. The first number is the Maximum Difficulty and the second the Minimum Difficulty.
- The Max Difficulty can be lowered towards the Min Difficulty if your Proficiencies are high in same ones listed on the Artifact.
2. Inspect your item of Clothing. Clothing has Slots and a Difficulty as well.
- The higher the Thread & Needle of the pilgrim who made the Clothing the lower its Difficulty.
- The number of Slots is the number of Artifacts which can be added to that Clothing.
3. Once ready select your Artifact and right-click it on the item of Clothing you wish to Slot.
- This will show you what % chance you have of a successful Slot. It is determined by a combination of BOTH the Artifact's and Clothing's Difficulty.
4. Select "Slot" to attempt to Slot your Artifact.
- A successful Slotting will see your Artifact attached to the Clothing. An unsuccessful Slotting will destroy the Artifact as well as one of the Clothing's open Slots.
Changing Clothing's Difficulty
While generally Any Clothing's Difficulty is set by the Thread & Needle of the pilgrim who made the Clothing, items of Clothing which have a Difficulty of 25, the highest Difficulty possible, can be lowered by selecting a Teasel and right-clicking it on the item of Clothing. Like crafting, the Clothing's new Difficulty will be based off the Thread & Needle of the person using the Teasel. This process is generally used on Developer and Store Bought Clothing.
Adding Slots to Clothing
There are a few Artifacts which can add more Slots to Any Clothing. While these Artifacts are added the same way as other Artifact, when they are successfully slotted they will consume 1 Slot and add 2 more.
Additional Slot Artifacts
Scissors
Having Any Scissors equipped while making Rags from Any Clothing will increase your chance of recovering some or all of the Artifacts Slotted into that Clothing. The higher the Scissors' Keen, the better the chance of recovering your Artifacts. Once a pair of Scissors reaches 100% wear they will break.
Scissors | Keen | Wears with Use? | Notes |
Steel Scissors | 20% | Yes | |
Cougar Snips | 50% | Yes | |
Hinchliffe Scissors | 70% | No | Legacy |
Sets
Generally pilgrims slot Artifacts which all give the same bonus and wear different sets of Clothing when doing different activities.
