About
While Salem is in a state of perpetual Autumn, this does not make it immune to shifts in the weather, which are generally called Seasons.
Seasons
The are three different Seasons in the New World, two natural and one summonable. Natural Seasons switch roughly week to week and have different effects on the animal and plants around you. Pilgrims with access to the Alchemy skill can build a Thermoscope to check the exact Temperature.

Animal Changes
Any Butterflys,
Any Glowworms, and
Any Moths only spawn during an Everbloom.
Bears and
Swift Shellbacks hibernate during a Coldsnap and therefore will not spawn.
Beavers fatten up during a Coldsnap and will yield more with
Gelatinous Lard when Butchered.
Cows,
Goats,
Pigs,
Sheep will only mate outside a
Barn during an Everbloom.
- Ewes (female
Sheep), will yeild about 35% more
Wool if Sheared during a Coldsnap.
Sperm Whales migrate South during a Coldsnap, and North during an Everbloom.
Plant Changes
- Harvesting crops from a
Tilled Field during an Everbloom adds a bonus of 50 Plenty.
- Fruit Orchards will only blossom and ripen during during an Everbloom.
Other Changes
Blistersteel Bars cool much more quickly during a Coldsnap.
Igloos can only by built during a Coldsnap.
Packed Snow,
Simple Snowflakes,
Shard of Ice,
Snowballs, and
Snow Masks take longer to melt during a Coldsnap.
Frontier Sleds and
Sturdy Sleds can be pulled faster during a Coldsnap.
Blood Moon
The third season is the Blood Moon, rumored to be caused by Witchcraft casting their spells and plunging Salem into the horrors of the Blood Moon. The Blood Moon will fade after about a day, and can be followed by either a Coldsnap or an Everbloom. Praying on the Benches in the Providence Church is rumored to reduce the time the Blood Moon lasts. Any pilgrims who are Knocked Out while outside, IE not inside a Building, during a Blood Moon will Permanently Die. It is advised that unless you are prepared to die, you should not to do do anything which may cause you to faint during a Blood Moon. Additionally Knocking Out another pilgrim while outside during a Blood Moon will leave
Murder Scents. NOTE: While being Knocked Out during a Blood Moon while inside a
Mine Entrance will NOT Permanently Kill you, be aware that getting Knocked Out from a
Bat can potentially cause you to be easily Knocked Out again after you respawn, then causing Permanent Death.
Changes
- Being online at the moment a Blood Moon begins adds 1 to 2 Madness levels worth of Insanity. Additionally, the rate at which you accumulate Insanity is also much higher.
- Being Knocked Out while outside during a Blood Moon will cause Permanent Death.
- Knocking Out another pilgrim while outside during a Blood Moon will leave
Murder Scents.
Bleed effects are magnified.
- Using
Sift Rubble will find
Blood Shards instead of
Any Raw Gems.
Arcane Amethyst can be found rarely when Chipping
Boulders.
