Performing the Mine action with  Any Axe or  Any Pickaxe equipped on a cracked wall within a  Mine Entrance will dig away that wall section and yield an  Ore Boulder.

With Any Axe or Any Pickaxe equipped right-click a  Copper Ore Boulder and select "Chip" to receive up to 20x  Rubble. Alternatively you may load any Boulder into a  Stamp Mill, or blow it up with a  Lit Boomstick. When Chipping any Boulder there is a chance to receive a  Sterling Geode or  Whetstone at the same Purity as the Boulder, or rarely an  Arcane Amethyst during a Blood Moon.
Ore Chipped from an Ore Boulder can Smelted in a lit  Ore Smelter to make Metal Bars.  Iron Ore is used to make a  Bar of Pig Iron,  Copper Ore a  Bar of Copper, and  Silver Ore is used to make  Silver Bars. Rubble Chipped from a Rubble Boulder can be Shifted with a  Sifting Pan to potentially get either  Black Sand,  Dravite,  Goldflakes,  Phosphophyllite,  Rubellite, or  Uvarovite.
