Used to prepare fields and [[Gardening Pot]]s for growing plants. (see [[Agriculture]] and [[Gardening]])<br>

Also can be used as a mediocre fertilizer.

For those seeking Plenty and Influence, alternating Lime and Hay will grant more of both than using humus.  However, humus takes less work overall to produce, so it may be beneficial for farmers on a tight budget/schedule.

Ferilizer Uses:

-- Without Three-Field System, Fertilizer 1 = First fertilizer to be used on field since seeds were planted; for each fertilizer you used on the field (regardless of which kind) add that to determine which fertilizer # your adding; Example: If you put (1) wood chip on the field, then used this fertilizer, you would get fertilizer 2 as the 2nd fertilizer used on the field.

The formula follows 15/sqrt(x) for plenty and 20/sqrt(x) for influence, so:

Fertilizer 1: +15% Plenty, +20% Influence

Fertilizer 2: +10% Plenty, +14% Influence

Fertilizer 3: +8% Plenty, +11% Influence

About

Humus icon.png Humus is primarily used to Plant crops in Till Field icon.png Tilled Fields and Gardening Pot icon.png Gardening Pots.

Composting

Composters, when filled with Organic Material, will generate 1x Humus icon.png Humus and possibly a Common Earthworm icon.png Common Earthworm or rarely an Earthworm Python icon.png Earthworm Python every 2 hours. The Purity of the Humus will be affected by Worm Purity and your Composter's Worm Efficiency. Each Common Earthworm will raise your Worm Efficiency by 4% and each Earthworm Python 16%. Composters have a 50 point fill capacity; the bar seen when opening a composter shows what percent that bar is filled. To fill your composter, select some Organic Material and right-click it onto your composter.

Worm and Humus Purity

Common Earthworm icon.png Common Earthworms and Earthworm Python icon.png Earthworm Pythons can have their Purity raised by allowing them to eat Any Plant icon.png Any Plant with a higher Purity than their own. To do this place a Worm in a Container and place your pure Any Plants directly next to, above, or below the Worm. After a few hours the Worm will eat one of the Plants and take 10% of the difference between the Plant's Purity and the Worm's Purity. Additionally Common Earthworms found when Rummaging an Abandoned Bird's Nest icon.png Abandoned Bird's Nest will take on the Purity of the Tree icon.png Tree it came from. Worms in turn pass their Purity to the Humus icon.png Humus they produce in a Compost Bin icon.png Compost Bin based on the average Purity of ALL the Worms inside the Compost Bin and its Worm Efficiency. For this reason it is recommended you regularly check on your Compost Bin and remove any unwanted Worms that spawn as they will lower your average Purity. Humus is one of three components for Gardening Purity.

Gardening Purity

Three factors influence Gardening Purity. The Purity of the Humus icon.png Humus, the Purity of the Plant, and the Purity of the Gardening Pot icon.png Gardening Pot. The Harvested Plant will be the average Purity of these three factors weighted towards the Humus. The formula is: Resulting Plant = ((Humus*2)+Pot+Initial Plant)/4. Any time the Resulting Plant's Purity is higher than the Gardening Pot's, the Gardening Pot's Purity will permanently increase by up to 2.56%. You may check your Gardening Pot's Purity by right-clicking it.

Fertilizer

Humus is also a Fertilizer icon.png Fertilizer which will add to a Till Field icon.png Tilled Field's Influence, Speed and Plenty.

Fertilizer gain per usage step:
Step Plenty Speed Influence
01: 25% 50% 29%
02: 12% 25% 16%
03: 8% 16% 12%
04: 6% 12% 10%
05: 5% 10% 9%
06: 4% 8% 8%
07: 3% 7% 7%
08: 3% 6% 7%
09: 2% 5% 6%
10: 2% 5% 6%
TOTAL IN 10 USES: 70% Plenty, 144% Speed, 110% Influence

NOTE: Values for Influence are factored with the bonus from having learned Three-field System.
