To fill a Vessel with Potable Water, click it to pick it up from your inventory and right-click The Shallows while holding it with the mouse. (Do not left-click otherwise you will lose the Bucket!) To fill a Vessel from a Barrel, Press, or another Vessel click it to pick it up from the inventory and right-click the Barrel. Conversely you may fill a Barrel or another Vessel from a Vessel the same way.

You can empty a Vessel by right-clicking it and choosing "Empty".

An empty Vessel, or one containing the same liquid must be in your inventory when Draining any Animal Heart such as a Turkey Heart, Cracking Any Poultry Egg, Draining Honeycomb, or Melting Packed Snow otherwise the liquid will be lost. Liquids of the same type can be combined so long as there is room in the Vessel, but generally, liquids of differing types cannot.
