A pilgrim’s body temperature usually sits a healthy 100 degrees (His Majesty’s Scale).

Hypothermia begins to set in as your body drops below 100, and, if left unchecked, will result in you being completely frozen.

Here’s what you need to know to avoid this fate.

Temperature

There are two main Seasons here in the colonies;

Each of the season has a distinct temperature. 98 for an Everbloom and 38 for a Coldsnap. Seasons change roughly every week. Inside any building is always a warm 80. Veteran pilgrims with access to Alchemy can build a Thermoscope icon.png Thermoscope to check the exact Temperature, but it is not necessary to know in order to stay warm and healthy.

A pilgrim is much more likely to get Hypothermia during a Coldsnap.

Hypothermia

As soon as your body Temperature drops below 100 Hypothermia begins to set in. In the left hand corner you will see Debuff Hypothermia.png with a degree value on it. That is your body Temperature.

At first Hypothermia will not impact you very much, but as your body Temperature drops more, the stronger the Hypothermia will become.

  • The stronger the Hypothermia the more your movement will be slowed.
  • If your body Temperature drops to 93 you will no longer be able to regenerate Humours.
  • If your body Temperature reaches 85 you will stop periodically as you shiver and shake.
  • Finally, if your body Temperature hits to 70 degrees you will become Frozen.

How to Avoid Hypothermia

1. Wear enough clothes.

Each item of clothes has a Thermal Value. This number refers to how warm that item is. This number can be seen in in the lower right-hand of the item.

Pilgrims come to the New World with only Priestly Robes icon.png Priestly Robes which has a Thermal Value of 10. This is more than enough to stay warm during Everbloom, but will not be warm enough for a Coldsnap. You will need to craft more clothes, and quickly.

To do this learn the skill Patchwork & Rags icon.png Patchwork & Rags as soon as possible. Some good Inspirationals to use are: Abandoned Cobweb icon.png Abandoned Cobweb, Broken Bough icon.png Broken Bough, Cactus Cat icon.png Cactus Cat, Flame Azalea icon.png Flame Azalea, Grass Whistle icon.png Grass Whistle, Iris Prismatica icon.png Iris Prismatica, Shooting Star icon.png Shooting Star, Spring Beauty icon.png Spring Beauty, Smooth Stone icon.png Smooth Stone, and Wild Garlic icon.png Wild Garlic.

Once Patchwork & Rags is learned check all the Hollow Stumps and Hollow Logs near your Leanto making sure to keep all the Abandoned Cobweb icon.png Abandoned Cobwebs and Dried Timber Rattler Skin icon.png Dried Timber Rattler Skins you find. Use the list below to help you craft some warm clothes. Keep in mind one of the most important clothes to make will be a good pair of Shoes. Rags icon.png Rags can be obtained from crafting extra pairs of clothes.

Once you have on a good set of clothes your body Temperature will slowly start to go up.

2. Drink Some Broth

Drinking Fish Broth icon.png Fish Broth, Meat Broth icon.png Meat Broth, Poultry Broth icon.png Poultry Broth will raise your body Temperature.

This one is more complicated and requires more skills to pull off. It is better to try making clothes before trying to make broth.

You will need to craft a Clay Pot icon.png Clay Pot and a Barkcup icon.png Barkcup. Cook either a Any Fish icon.png Any Fish, Any Raw Meat Cut icon.png Any Raw Meat Cut, or Plucked Wild Turkey icon.png Plucked Wild Turkey inside the Clay Pot. Put the broth in the Barkcup and drink it.

A possible work around to obtaining all the necessary skills is to gather Indian Arrowhead icon.png Indian Arrowheads, Indian Feather icon.png Indian Feathers, and Dried Timber Rattler Skin icon.png Dried Timber Rattler Skins, to sell at the white Stalls in Providence and then see if anyone is selling any of the ingredients you’ll need in the blue Player Stalls.

3. Warm Up in a Building

The Temperature inside any building is always a warm 80. While you can warm up in buildings you’ve built, the easiest solution is to travel to Providence and enter one on the open buildings. The Barn across the river, North-West from the Statue is always open. Once inside your body Temperature will slowly start to rise.

4. Using a Wool Blanket

Cuddling up to a Wool Blanket icon.png Wool Blanket will also raise your body Temperature.

5. Carry a Heated Stone

Stone icon.png Any Stone can be baked in a Fireplace icon.png Fireplace to make Heated Stone icon.png Heated Stone. Carrying a Heated Stone in your inventory will raise your body Temperature.

Being Frozen

Once your body temperature hits to 70 degrees you will become encased in a block of ice.

Unfortunately there is only two ways of becoming unfrozen.

1. Have another pilgrim defrost you with a Tinder Drill icon.png Tinder Drill or a lit Torch icon.png Torch.

2. Wait until the next Everbloom. Once the Season switches to Everbloom you will be thawed and your body Temperature reset to 100.

Snow Exploration

Snow is only found at the top of very tall mountains. Venturing up mountains and into high elevations with dramatically increase the speed in which your body Temperature drops. The Temperature may be much colder than even a Coldsnap in the Snow. A pilgrim's regular set of clothing may not protect them up in the snow. Make sure to never walk in the snow without shoes and try to at least wear something on each slot of your body.

Players can craft Igloos on the Snow in order warm up inside a building.
