In-Game Text

"These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat."

– Leviticus 11:9, King James' Bible

The far flung oceans across which you came hold, parallel to the rivers and lakes of this strange and wondrous land, a teeming multitude of life. Fishing allows you to fish, and to craft a primitive fishing pole.

A fisherman and his catch

About

Casting your fishing pole removes a small amount of Insanity.

Patch Notes as of 14/02/2016 V1.2:

- Mini Game has been removed.

- Players may now fish from a longer distance.

- Each fish caught now has a different weight depending on how long he has lived.

- The weight of a fish determines the amount of value given when you compost it or feed it to turkeys etc.

- The weight of the fish now determines how many fish fillets you get.

- The weight of the fish now determines the gluttony values given when dried.

- Fish Trap has been renamed to Shellfish Trap and now only catches shellfish.

- The amount of shellfish collected in a Shellfish Trap has been increased.

- Alchemy Value & Inspirational values swapped on the Red Herring tooltip.

- New Cursor Graphic when Fishing.

- Baiting a fishing Pole now makes a sound.

- Fish Hooks now have a unique ground graphic when dropped.

- There is a new Leaderboard for Fishing.

The prize for registering a fish in the Leaderboard is a Crimson Carp.

Instructions

  1. Construct a fishing rod and lure.
  2. Equip the fishing rod and lure (left-click to pick it up then right-click the fishing rod).
  3. Click the Fish icon.png Fish action under the Adventure icon.png Adventure menu, the cursor will change to a fishing bait.
  4. Click on a body of water.

After a short while a fish may bite.

Also:

  • Lures can be removed from rods by right-clicking the rod. If the rod breaks, you will lose the lure as well, so it is advisable to remove expensive lures from rods that are close to 95% wear as the rod will break soon after.
  • You can use a Grub icon.png Grub as lure. A grub fed with a plant with some purity will transfer the purity to the caught fishes. It's a quicker way to improve the purity than to feed an earthworm in a container. Crafting hooks from pure metal will also transfer the purity of the metal to the fish.

Equipment

  Fishing Rods Materials Note

* Research is still being conducted as to how lures affect fish caught.

Equipment Wear

Fishing rods and lures are damaged with use, and this is represented as 'wear' when hovering over their icons. Equipment is damaged over time, whether a fish is hooked or not. When struggling with a fish, wear seems to tick but the effect of the wear seems to wait until you catch/lose the fish. This is apparent as your equipment will not break during the process, but often immediately after.

The amount of wear per tick is determined by the type of equipment and your Flora & Fauna proficiency.

NOTE: Your fishing rod will not be damaged when using bait (like earthworms), contrary to the use of lures where both the rod and the lure degrade.
