In-Game Text

"These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat."

– Leviticus 11:9, King James' Bible

The far flung oceans across which you came hold, parallel to the rivers and lakes of this strange and wondrous land, a teeming multitude of life. Fishing allows you to fish, and to craft a primitive fishing pole.

A fisherman and his catch

About

Casting your fishing pole removes a small amount of Insanity.

Instructions

  1. Construct a fishing rod and lure.
  2. Equip the fishing rod (requires both hands free) and lure (left-click to pick it up then right-click the fishing rod).
  3. Click the Fish icon.png Fish action under the Adventure icon.png Adventure menu, the cursor will change to a crucifix.
  4. Click on a body of water.

After a short while a fish may bite. After this, a window will pop up every few seconds presenting you with three random options. One option will cause the fish to be reeled in, one will do nothing, and one will let the fish pull away. The options themselves can be quite random, but their effect will be consistent for each type of fish.

Your character's stance indicates your advantage over the fish. The further back you are leaning the closer you are to successfully catching the fish. If you are in danger of losing your fish - when you're leaning forward - walk away, so you save your worm.

If you understand card-counting it is similar; you will get a list of options in which any of the options can be +1, +0, -1.

The +1 choices are persistent so for example "Resist", "Reel in", and "Pull high" are +1 when the fish is a Angel-Winged Seabass.

Also:

  • Lures can be removed from rods by right-clicking the rod.
  • As of the latest update, baits have a 99% chance of hooking a fish.

Equipment

* Research is still being conducted as to how lures affect fish caught.

Equipment Wear

Fishing rods and lures are damaged with use, and this is represented as 'wear' when hovering over their icons. Equipment is damaged over time, whether a fish is hooked or not. When struggling with a fish, wear seems to tick but the effect of the wear seems to wait until you catch/lose the fish. This is apparent as your equipment will not break during the process, but often immediately after.

The amount of wear per tick is determined by the type of equipment and your Flora & Fauna proficiency.

NOTE: Your fishing rod will not be damaged when using bait (like earthworms), contrary to the use of lures where both the rod and the lure degrade.
