A Rotten Log can be used anywhere as a Woodblock in any recipes, however you should always Shake it before Splitting an Rotten Log. With Any Axe equipped, and your volume is on and right-click the Rotten Log and and select Shake.
However if you hear any of these phrases:
Inside your Rotten log will contain a Mischievous Gnome who will force you to drop everything in your inventory except for Pockets and Backpacks. Then quickly disappear. These Rotten Logs make great fuel for your Coal Clamp or Fireplace. WARNING! Splitting a Rotten Log without Shaking it first may cause you to drop your entire inventory.
