In-Game Text

"Nature herself gives a silent judgment in favor of the immortality of the soul, inasmuch as all are anxious, and that to a great degree, about the things which concern futurity:

'One plants what future ages shall enjoy.'

as Statius saith in his Synephebi. What is his object in doing so, except that he is interested in posterity? Shall the industrious husbandman, then, plant trees the fruit of which he shall never see?"

– Marcus Tullius Cicero, Tusculanarum Disputationum

The most abundant and plentiful of common and oft-employed resources can quickly, as a colony grows, become the scarcest. Forestry allows you to plant trees.

About

  • Acquire a cutting from a tree, and plant it in a Gardening Pot. If a tree sprouts in the pot, carry the pot and Right-Click on the ground to plant the tree.

Two cuttings can be taken from a tree until the cuttings regrow.

The chance of a cutting sprouting is based on a check done when the cutting is struck and again on a check done when the cutting is potted. Thus, a player with high Flora & Fauna and Natural Philosophy can strike the cuttings and sell/store/give them. The player doing the potting needs to have high Stocks & Cultivars and Natural Philosophy.

When a sapling finishes growing in a pot, it will either be harvest-able as a stick, or it will be ready to be planted. It will only change in visual appearance once it is ready to be planted, there will be no right click options. To plant the sapling, pick up the pot and right click on any grass or dirt. You will be given the option to either plant, or to drop the pot. You will keep the pot after planting the sapling.

Currently all trees that where not planted by players have 0% purity. The Purity of a grown tree is based on the purity of the cutting it was grown from, and the purity of the pot, and humus used to grow the cutting. The purity of a cutting is equal to the purity of the tree it was taken from. Nut purity is determined by the trees they are picked from.
