A flat black sand without shine or glimmer, as may be found upon the shores of Cocytus' wailing depths.
About
Sands are used to make Glass Panes. To make a Glass Plane, mix together 12x Sand and 12x Black Sand using the Silicate Compound recipe. Silicate Compound can then be melted down into Glass by right-clicking a Crucible and using the Glass Pane recipe.
Sifting
To Sift Rubble Rubble, equip a Sifting Pan or Prospector's Pan and stand in The Shallows. Click Adventure -> Sift Rubble. This will change your mouse icon to a Sifting Pan, click again on The Shallows to begin Sifting. Each time you Sift it will consume 1x Rubble with a chance to get either Black Sand, Dravite, Goldflakes, Phosphophyllite, Rubellite, Uvarovite, or potentially nothing in return. You will have to repeat this process for each Rubble in your inventory or use a Custom Client which allows you to automate the Sifting.
Finding Any Raw Gem while Sifting reduces a bit of Insanity. Raw Gems have a variable number of Carats which can give a bonus to the Raw Gem's Affluence when cut on the Gemcutter's Wheel. Raw Gems also have a Hardness which refers to its odds of successfully being cut on a Gemcutter's Wheel. The Harder the Raw Gem, the less chance of success. Hardness is rolled when Sifting and is based on your Mines & Mountains Proficiency, the Mining bonus from Artifacts and chance.
Finding Any Raw Gem during a Blood Moon will instead give you a Blood Shard.
