With the Forestry Skill learned, and  Any Axe equipped, right-clicking a  Birch Tree selecting "Strike Cutting" will give you a  Birch Cutting. Each Birch Tree can produce only 2x Birch Cuttings. A Birch Cutting can be Planted in a  Gardening Pot to grow a Birch Tree. When Planted  Cuttings will sometimes fail and instead become a single  Branch. The higher your  Flora & Fauna Proficiency, the less likely this is to happen. Planting in Gardening Pots lowers Insanity.
