A Branding Iron can be carried in a Tool Belt, or stored in a Wooden Toolbox.

Branding a Domesticated Animal will add your name to that animal's pedigree and allows you to Slaughter your animal.

Right-click your Branding Iron on a source of Fire to transform your Branding Iron into a Hot Branding Iron.
Equip your Hot Branding Iron to your right hand slot.
Right-click on the Domesticated Animal you wish to Brand and select "Brand". This will add a large amount of Temperament to your animal.
Make sure your animal's Temperament is under 25.
With a Knife right-click your animal and select "Slaughter".
