 Pinecones can be found on the ground in the  Coniferous Biome, by right-clicking a  Spruce Tree and selecting "Gather Pinecone". Right-clicking on a Pinecone and selecting "Remove Cone Scales" will give you will give you 0-5x  Pine Nuts, 2-4x  Pinecone Scales, and uncommonly, an  Oddly Shaped Pinecone Scale.
A Pinecone is an Ignitable Item which becomes a  Flaming Pinecone when lit. A Flaming Pinecone is also a Secondary Source of Fire, so structures such as a  Fireplace can be lit from it. To light a Pinecone right-click it on a source of  Fire and to light things from a Pinecone right-click it onto an Ignitable Structure or Item. A Flaming Pinecone will burn out and disappear within a couple of minutes.
