Craft a lock and apply it to a door, gate or a container(Note:Not all containers can use locks) by holding it and right-clicking on the container. In-Game Text

"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

– Matthew 16:19, King James' Bible

The gift of a key to one's Homestead, Chest or House is one of most solemn trusts that can be bestowed upon a friend. Locksmithing gives you the ability to craft a simple bolt-lock, which can be installed on gates, doors, chests and the like to prevent it from being opened by outsiders, and also allows you to make new copies of keys for kith and kin.

About

How To Use A Key

In order to use any key, it must be attuned to the character. Notice that keys are personal and can only be attuned to one character at a time, stolen keys can therefore not be used. Keys are automatically attuned to their creator when they are made. To attune a key to a different character, right-click the key on the character, this will make the keys unusable for you. Right clicking on any key allows you to rename it.

Key name color: Green = attuned to you; Red = not attuned to you.

Any of the keys can be stored in a Keyring, the Keyring may be equipped and will not be lost if you are knocked out.

Tip: Always make a spare master key to keep on an alt (and attuned to that alt) in case your character is killed and its keyring stolen. If your keys are stolen, you will not be able to enter your own base or open your own locked containers. Everything will have to be broken and rebuilt.

How To Use A Lock

  • Craft a Key and a Lock
  • Use the Key on the Lock (in your inventory) by right-clicking to associate it
  • Add the attuned Lock to a Chest, or Gate by right-clicking with the lock on the object

Note: Using an unattuned lock will permanently lock the item!

Types of Keys

There are three types of key that can be created by a locksmith.

  • Key is the original master key. Copies may be made from it.
  • Master Copy of Key is a copy of the Key that acts as a master key and can be used to make additional copies.
  • Slave Copy of Key is a copy of the Key that only operates locks, and cannot be used to make copies.
