A fisherman and his catch

Template:Infobox skill

Instructions

  1. Construct a fishing rod and lure.
  2. Equip the fishing rod (requires both hands free) and lure (left-click to pick it up then right-click the fishing rod).
  3. Click the Fish icon under the Adventure menu, the cursor will change to a crucifix.
  4. Click on a body of water.

After a short while a fish may bite. After this, a window will pop up every few seconds presenting you with three random options. One option will cause the fish to be reeled in, one will do nothing, and one will let the fish pull away. The options themselves can be quite random, but their effect will be consistent for each type of fish (source).

Your character's stance indicates your advantage over the fish. The further back you are leaning the closer you are to successfully catching the fish.

Also:

  • Caught fish inherit the same purity as the water from which they came.
  • Lures can be removed from rods by right-clicking the rod.

Equipment Wear

Fishing rods and lures are damaged with use, and this is represented as 'wear' when hovering over their icons. Equipment is damaged over time, whether a fish is hooked or not. When struggling with a fish, wear seems to tick but the effect of the wear seems to wait until you catch/lose the fish. This is apparent as your equipment will not break during the process, but often immediately after.

The amount of wear per tick is determined by the type of equipment and your Frontier & Wilderness proficiency. (source).

Equipment

  Fishing Rods Materials Note
Makeshift Fishing Rod icon.png
Makeshift Fishing Rod Branch x4, Hay x2, Flint x1 The easiest rod to make. Less durable than the Fishing Pole.
Fishing Pole icon.png
Fishing Pole Sharpened Stick x4, Cotton Cloth x1, Nails x2, Leather x3 About 3x stronger than the Makeshift Fishing Rod. May be required for high tier fish [1].

See the Lures article for more info.

* Research is still being conducted as to how rods and lures affect fish caught.

Footnotes

  1. Fishing Pole: "May be required for high tier fish" - needs confirmation; do poles have any effect or is it only the lures?
