Argopelters can only be found in Darkness within Autumnal or Coniferous biomes. They spawn in packs of up to 5. Interestingly, they seem to have the propensity to follow a player for short distances even while not engaged in combat. Once within close range, the argopelter will inevitably attack the player if the player fails to move away in time. If there is a nearby tree, the argopelter will immediately move to climb it and begin pelting the player with sticks, dealing highly variable damage (0.3 to 33.8) which will quickly incapacitate the player. It is not possible to attack the argopelter while it is in the tree. The only way to remove the argopelter from the tree is to cut the tree down. The argopelter will then simply move into the next adjacent tree. It may be useful to confuse the argopelter by building a maze of makeshift fences around the bases of trees.

There is a chance to get various rare items from Butchering. This chance is much higher with the Viscera & Bits Skill learned.
Butchering an Argopelter does not always yield beak.

WARNING: Becoming KO'ed by an argopelter will result in the character becoming stuck in the KO state for excessively long periods of time. This is a known bug.

Argopelters are aggressive; they will attack any pilgrim who wanders too close. When an Argopelter initiates combat it will run to, and climb, the closest Tree icon.png Tree. Once there the Argopelter will begin to Throw Branch icon.png Throw Branches. If a Branch icon.png Branch connects it will deal a highly variable random amount of damage and you will become very briefly Stunned icon.png Stunned. It is possible to become Stun locked especially if multiple Argopelters are attacking at the same time. An Argopelter cannot be damaged once up a Tree. The most effective way to get an Argopelter down is to get out of range of the Sticks and wait for it to run towards a Tree closer to you. Once it is down you must intercept it and kill it before it can climb another Tree. Cleave icon.png Cleave is generally accepted as the best attack to use on Argopelters. Occasionally, if there no Tree in range an Argopelter will climb into a nearby Structure, or even into the ground, and disappear completely. An Argopelter can NOT be Stunned with Stomp icon.png Stomp.

Resources

With the Hideworking Skill learned, Skinning an Argopelter will yield 1x Raw Argopelt icon.png Raw Argopelt.

NOTE: It is important to Skin the carcass first, otherwise the Butchering will ruin the Hide.

With all relevant Butchering Skills learned, Butchering an Argopelter will always yield 1x Skinned Argopelter icon.png Skinned Argopelter.

There is a chance to get various rare items from Butchering. This chance is much higher with the Viscera & Bits Skill learned.
