# Equip the fishing rod (requires both hands free) and lure (left-click to pick it up then right-click the fishing rod).

# Click on a body of water.

After a short while a fish may bite. After this, a window will pop up every few seconds presenting you with three random options. One option will cause the fish to be reeled in, one will do nothing, and one will let the fish pull away. The options themselves can be quite random, but their effect will be consistent for each type of fish ([http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?607420-Game-Development-Hooked-on-a-Feeling&p=13815083&viewfull=1#post13815083 source]).

Your character's stance indicates your advantage over the fish. The further back you are leaning the closer you are to successfully catching the fish.

=== Equipment Wear ===

Fishing rods and lures are damaged with use, and this is represented as 'wear' when hovering over their icons. Equipment is damaged over time, whether a fish is hooked or not. When struggling with a fish, wear seems to tick but the effect of the wear seems to wait until you catch/lose the fish.  This is apparent as your equipment will not break during the process, but often immediately after.
