The idea here is obviously that you need to rotate your crops over your various fields, and fertilize them in an intelligent manner, in order to build up their meters and thus reach the higher output tiers. For example to reach higher tier of cereal you would need to build up meters it takes from 4 and 1, so you might rotate cabbage and pumpkin beforehand to raise meters 1+4."

From Loftar: ''Currently, each cycle depletes 5% (unmodified) of the elements that the crop consumes, and fills 5% (modified by the influence boost) of the meter that the crop adds to. The harvest yields tier 1 output when the sum of the two meters it consumes is 0%-50% (of one meter), a mix of tier 1 and one of the 2nd tiers when the sum is 50%-100%, a mix of the 2nd tiers when the sum is 100%-150% and a mix of one of the 2nd tiers and tier 3 when the sum is 150%-200%. I'm open to changes on that, though.''

The easiest way of taking advantage of this system is to designate a primary crop for each field and rotate crops that raise the influences it needs to get better products for that crop. Fertilizer can be used to boost the target influences faster. For example, for better types of cereal, you can rotate the cabbage and pumpkins to raise the first and fourth influence.

The type of product produced by a field is determined by the value of the two influences used by the crop (the values given are the percentage of the influence meter filled, so if both meters are completely filled, the total influence would be 200%):

The tier 2 product produced is determined by the higher of the two influences (the product order in the previous table shows the tier 2 product with the lower numbered influence first).

This table assumes that harvesting crops should drain all influence bars (contrary to the Jorb's quote), except for the one that particular crop increases. In this case you want the second crop to actually use influence bar raised by first crop, in order to get higher tier results while raising influence for the final product. Items in brackets in 3rd column are possible 2nd tier products you may receive.

Crop Growth and Rotation

Influence

A field has four influences that affect the growth of various crops and the type of product they produce. The following image is displayed for a field that is not planted:

Farming-meters.jpg

In this image, the 1st meter has about 5% and the other meters are empty.

Each crop consumes 5% of a full bar for two influences and increases the value of one influence by at least 5% (this increase is modified by the influence boost for the field, see below, and the boost is improved if you have the Three-field System skill).

  • Note: There is currently a possible bug where all crops actually drain 5% from every meter besides the one it contributes to. So for example, instead of Cabbage draining 5% from only the 3rd and 4th meters, it also drains 5% from the 2nd meter as well. The amount it contributes to the meter it produces output to seems unchanged.
Crop Takes from Gives to
Cabbage 3 4 1
Ear of Cereal 4 1 2
Cotton 1 2 3
Pumpkin 2 3 4
Corn 1 3 2

The easiest way of taking advantage of this system is to designate a primary crop for each field and rotate crops that raise the influences it needs to get better products for that crop. Fertilizer can be used to boost the target influences faster. For example, for better types of cereal, you can rotate the cabbage and pumpkins to raise the first and fourth influence.

Crop Tiers

Crops will produce new types as the influence gets high enough. The following is a table of the various tiers of crops.

Seed Tier 1 Tier 2 Tier 3
Seeds of Cotton Yellow-Stained Cotton Indian Cotton
Egyptian Cotton
Sea Island Cotton
Seeds of Cereal Ear of Oats Ear of Rye
Ear of Barley
Ear of Wheat
Seeds of Cabbage Colewort Head of Green Cabbage
Head of White Cabbage
Head of Red Cabbage
Seeds of Pumpkin varies varies varies
Seeds of Yellow Corn Seeds of Yellow Corn Seeds of White Corn
Seeds of Blue Corn
Seeds of Golden Corn

The type of product produced by a field is determined by the value of the two influences used by the crop (the values given are the percentage of the influence meter filled, so if both meters are completely filled, the total influence would be 200%):

  • if the total influence is between 0% and 50% the field produces all tier 1 products.
  • if the total influence is between 50% and 100% the field produces both tier 1 and tier 2 products.
  • if the total influence is between 100% and 150% the field produces tier 2 products.
  • if the total influence is between 150% and 200%, the field produces both tier 2 and tier 3 products.

The tier 2 product produced is determined by the higher of the two influences (the product order in the previous table shows the tier 2 product with the lower numbered influence first).

Growth Time

The base growth time are as follows

Plant Type Base
Cabbage 3 Days
Ear of Cereals 3 Days
Cotton 4 Days
Pumpkin 4+ Days
Corn 3+ Days

Rotation

This table assumes that harvesting crops drain all influence bars except for the one that particular crop increases (it reflects the bug mentioned above). In this case you want the second crop to actually use influence bar raised by first crop, in order to get higher tier results while raising influence for the final product. Items in brackets in 3rd column are possible 2nd tier products you may receive.

Wanted Result 1st Rotation 2nd Rotation
Cabbage Cotton Pumpkin (Sugar Treat, Connecticut Field, Harvest Moon)
Cotton Cabbage Ear of Cereals (Ear of Barley)
Cabbage Corn (Seeds of White Corn)
Ear of Cereals Pumpkin Cabbage (Head of White Cabbage)
Pumpkin Ear of Cereals Cotton (Egyptian Cotton)
Corn Cotton (Egyptian Cotton)
Cotton Corn (Seeds of Blue Corn)
Corn Cabbage Cotton (Indian Cotton)

  • As of November 12th 2012, this table is correct.
