They're still the safest way to leave Boston though.
Teleporting
When you have created a new character and are ready to find a settlement, talk to this guy. You can 'Use Complementary Teleport' to be taken a way out into the wilderness to a random location somewhat near Boston. If you end up in a nasty place like on top of a mountain, the guide will take you elsewhere up to 3 more times. Be aware, he will assume you like your location and leave if you wander too far away.
If you want to join a friend, don't use the complimentary guidance. Put your friend's Homestead Secret into the white box at the bottom and press 'Enter'. Then, click the new button that appears. Your friend must have a homestead secret set, and must have a Claimstone set as their homestead, not a leanto.
