"Cotton Cloth" is a generic term which represents all the different tiers of cotton cloth available in the game. Any recipe which states only "Cotton Cloth" as ingredient allows you to use any tier cloth, although obviously the most cost effective is to use your lowest tier cloth for such recipes, saving your higher tier cloth for recipes which explicitly require them.

Note: When you combine different tiers of Cotton when creating Cotton Cloth, you end up with just a generic Cotton Cloth, which cannot be used for any tier-specific clothing!
