Drying Tobacco on a Drying Frame for 2 days will produce Template:Dry Tobacco Leaves. 12x Dry Tobacco Leaves can then Shredded on a Copper Grinder or Grindstone. Shredded Tobacco can be packed into a Cob Pipe, Scrimshaw Pipe, or Tobacco Pipe and Puffed to potentially drop a Madness level. The higher your Madness level and the higher the tier of Tobacco used, the higher the chance of dropping a level.

To pack your Scrimshaw Pipe select the Shredded Tobacco you wish to Puff and right-click it on your Pipe. If your Pipe is equipped to your left hand slot right-click and select Puff. Each Puff produces wears. Eventually your Scrimshaw Pipe will wear out and need to be replaced.

NOTE: Whittling a Template:IScrimshaw Pipe on a Whittler's Bench removes a small amount of Insanity
