This page is about the Tools sub-menu of the game and will mention pages relevant to what one can find inside it.
This sub-menu can be found inside the Craft-menu.

Tools that Wear

Some Tools take wear the most you use them and therefore will eventually need to be replaced. Other Tools generally will NOT need to be replaced with the exception of certain Madness events such as Questionably Effective Axe icon.png Questionably Effective Axes and Questionably Effective Shovel icon.png Questionably Effective Shovels.

Axes

Equipping Any Axe icon.png Any Axe allows Chop Tree icon.png Trees, Log icon.png Logs, and Wood Pile icon.png Wood Piles, Split Woodblock icon.png Woodblocks, Strike Cutting icon.png Cuttings, and Chip Boulder icon.png Boulders, although it's better to use Any Pickaxe icon.png Any Pickaxe for this if one is available. The higher tier the Axe, the faster it completes these actions.

Hoes

Having Any Hoe icon.png Any Hoe equipped decreases both the Phlegm cost and the time it takes to build a Till Field icon.png Tilled Field. Normally a Tilled Field's Upkeep can only be lowered to 50%, however, once the Plantation Management Skill has been learned, right-clicking a Tilled Field with Any Hoe equipped and selecting "Tend" will permanently lower that Tilled Field's Upkeep Cap.

Knives and Butchering

Having a Knife equipped when Butchering or Skinning creatures will speed up the process, transfer Purity, and prevent the Insanity gained when Butchering by hand. When you finish Butchering any Creature it will leave a temporary Blood Splatter icon.png Blood Splatter behind.

Pickaxes

Casting Rods

Equipping a Any Bait icon.png Any Bait to Any Casting Rod icon.png Any Casting Rod allows you to use the Fish icon.png Fish action. The more durable the Rod, and the higher your Flora & Fauna icon.png Flora & Fauna Proficiency, the slower it will wear and the longer it will last before breaking. At 100% wear your Rod will be break, this will cause Bait still attached to be lost.

Saws

Scissors

Having Any Scissors icon.png Any Scissors equipped while making Rags icon.png Rags from Any Clothing icon.png Any Clothing will increase your chance of recovering some or all of the Artifacts Slotted into that Clothing. The higher the Scissors' Keen, the better the chance of recovering your Artifacts. Once a pair of Scissors reaches 100% wear they will break.

Shovels

Mineral Pans

With Rubble icon.png Rubble in your Inventory and a Mineral Pan equipped allows you to use Sift Rubble icon.png Sift Rubble action on The Shallows icon.png The Shallows to wash your Rubble and reveal if there was Any Raw Gem icon.png Any Raw Gem, Black Sand icon.png Black Sand, or Goldflakes icon.png Goldflakes hidden within. Raw Gems have both a variable number of Hardness which determines how difficult that Gem is to cut on Gemcutter's Wheel icon.png Gemcutter's Wheel and a have a variable number of Carats determined purely on chance, which gives a bonus to the Cut Gem's Artifact stats and if over 1.00 carats, change that Gemstone's size. Finding Any Raw Gem during a Blood Moon icon.png Blood Moon will instead give you a Blood Shard icon.png Blood Shard. Finding Any Raw Gem while Sifting reduces a bit of Insanity.

Prospecting Devices

Equipping a Prospecting Device allows you to Prospect icon.png Prospect. Prospecting reveals the locations of Well Points and Ore Nodes which are hidden underground. When Prospecting a pink arrow will appear above your head which will spin randomly until you get close enough to a Node for it to lock on. Once it has locked on it will towards point the nearest Node's. Once you are close enough a Node will appear on the ground as a patch with brown, gray, or blue steaks running through it. Currently a Prospecting Device's Purity does NOT matter.

Quills

Tickling

With a Quill icon.png Quill equipped and the French Tickler Skill learned, right-clicking on another pilgrim gives you the option to "Tickle". Tickling another pilgrim transfers your Insanity to them - lowering yours but raising theirs. The longer you Tickle the more Insanity you will transfer, however, any action that causes you to involuntarily stop Tickling, such as the pilgrim moving away, will cause you to gain a large amount of Insanity and may cause your Quill to break. Tickling is NOT a Crime! icon.png Crime! and therefore will NOT leave Evidence icon.png Evidence or Scent icon.png Scents.

WARNING! It is technically possible to Tickle a pilgrim past level 10 Madness so that the pilgrims permanently dies. Tickling another pilgrim to death adds a massive amount of Insanity.

Tongs

Tongs are required to be equipped in order to remove a Bloom icon.png Bloom from a Finery Forge icon.png Finery Forge and bring it to a Trip Hammer icon.png Trip Hammer in the process of making Wrought Iron Bar icon.png Wrought Iron Bars.

Whipping Criminals

With the Sanctioned Mortification Skill learned and a Whip equipped, right-clicking on any of the Stocks which a criminal is locked up in, gives you the option to "Whip" them. Whipping a criminal will deal permanent damage to their Humours. This damage is determined by the Whipper's Justice Score and is increased if the criminal is offline. Whipping damage will not cause a criminal's Humours to drop lower than 5. Whipping a criminal adds 100 Justice Points and getting Whipped adds a small amount of Insanity.
