About

Inheritance is the means by which the descendant of your character can regain a measure of what was lost when their ancestor died. Basic Inheritance includes the transfer of ownership of any property in the form of Stake Claim icon.png Stake Claims owned by the ancestor as well as 10% of their Humours and Proficences. These numbers can be increased by Planing your Estate and by Paying Respects to your ancestor. Inheritance is passed on by talking to the appropriate NPC while creating a New Character, on the same account, in London.

NOTE: While Stake Claims will transfer, if the major of a Town Bell icon.png Town Bell dies that town will become mayor-less. However, once you learn the Compacts & Constitutions skill you can become the major again.

Estate Planning

Without any other actions taken, your next of kin can Inherit 10% of your Humours and Proficences. However, right-clicking on Mr. Morgan in Providence and selecting "Plan Estate" will give you the option to pay a fee to allow your next of kin to Inherit 30% of your current Humours and Proficences in the event of your death. This service will cost more Silver Pieces icon.png Silver Pieces the higher your Humours and Proficences are.

NOTE: When Planning your Estate with Mr. Morgan only your CURRENT Humours and Proficences will be recorded recorded meaning that if either increase, unless you have Planned your Estate again, these gains will NOT be Inherited.

Last Will & Testament

Using the Salem Store bought Last Will and Testament icon.png Last Will and Testament will allow your next of kin to Inherit 40% of your Humours and Proficences. Unlike using the Estate Planner, Mr. Morgan, A Last Will and Testament is updated automatically and without additional cost as you gain additional Humours or Profeciencies.

Interment

The Corpse icon.png Corpse of any pilgrim who has Permanently Died will decompose into a Skeleton icon.png Skeleton in about 24 hours. To make the most of your Inheritance is important to recover and protect the Skeleton of your ancestors. With the Larceny Skill learned, pilgrims can right-click and select "Desecrate" to permanently Destroy your Skeleton after a couple of Days, preventing you from Interring your Skeleton or Paying Respects. Desecrating a Skeleton will give you that Skeleton's Pilgrim's Skull icon.png Pilgrim's Skull but will leave Evidence Theft.png Larceny Scents. The best way to protect your Skeleton is to inter it under a Tombstone icon.png Tombstone or inside a Crypt icon.png Crypt. NOTE: A Skeleton can be Lift icon.png Lifted, but can NOT be loaded into Landcraft or Watercraft.

Interment Option 1: Burial

  1. Build a Coffin icon.png Coffin.
  2. Lift icon.png Lift your Skeleton icon.png Skeleton and right-click in on the Coffin.
  3. Lift your Coffin and right-click the ground and select "Bury".
  4. This will Bury the Coffin and replace it with a Tombstone icon.png Tombstone.
WARNING! A Tombstone is subject to Grave Robbing - a criminal can Dig icon.png Dig up your Coffin and retrieve your Skeleton.

Interment Option 2: Entombment

  1. Build a Crypt icon.png Crypt.
  2. Lift icon.png Lift your Skeleton icon.png Skeleton and enter the Crypt.
  3. Right-click the pedestal at the center of the Crypt.

Unlike a Tombstone, a Crypt is not subject to Grave Robbing.

Paying Respects

Interring a dead pilgrim, made from the same account as yours, allows you to Pay Respects to them once every 10 hours, by selecting the appropriate Any Flower icon.png Any Flower and right-clicking in on their Tombstone icon.png Tombstone or on the pedestal inside their Crypt icon.png Crypt. Each time you do this you will receive 10% of the difference between your Proficiency and theirs, based on the Flower you chose.
