Diseases

There are four main Diseases in the New World, Big Pox, Frontier Flux, Land Legs, Maroon Fever. Untreated Disease will progressively get worse, filling up your Disease bar, until at Max Disease you will start taking Humour damage and then, if you are Knocked Out, you will permanently die.

Pilgrims are NOT allowed to enter the Providence Church if they are infected.

Transmission

Humans are believed to acquire Disease by inhalation of bad air. Standing close to another infected pilgrim, or even next to the corpse of a pilgrim who has died of Disease, and opening an infected Plague Chest are believed to be ways to contract Disease. It is also rumored that the item Cozy Blanket, a gift from the Developers, can transmit Disease when opened.

Zoonotic Transmission

Some animals and insects can pass their Diseases on to humans. Zoonotic Diseases CANNOT be Prevented.

Rats

Rats are an aggressive Darkness Creature which will frequently attack on sight. If a Rat attacks you other Rats nearby will join in and attack you as well. If you are bit by a Rat you will become Diseased, with the particular Disease being random. Each subsequent bite will increase the Disease's severity.

Deer Ticks

Deer Ticks are obtained by chance when skinning a Deer. A Deer Tick can be used to transmit Disease to Criminals in the Stocks.

Signs and Symptoms

With the four Diseases there are four symptoms, but all four diseases will exhibit all four symptoms randomly, but one symptom will be more common than the others. Early in the Disease's progression it may be difficult to tell which Disease has actually been contracted. As time passes, the Disease will become more and more serious, the symptoms occurring more frequently. The worse the Disease gets, though, the easier it is to figure out which symptom is the most common and therefore find the correct cure. [1] This video can help in identifying your symptoms.

Disease Treatment

Once a Disease is Diagnosed, it can be treated with the appropriate medication. It may take more than one dose of the medication to cure the Disease, especially if the Disease has progressed particular far, or the wrong cure has been taken.

Disease Prevention

In most cases the it is possible to avoid infection simply by not inhaling the bad air, however, Zoonotic Diseases CANNOT be Prevented against.

Animal Infectious Diseases

Animal Sickness

Domesticated Animals can become Diseased from hunger or by being left outside during a Coldsnap. A Diseased Animal will sit down and shake its head back and forth and if not treated in a timely fashion it will die.

Animal Disease Treatment

To cure a Diseased Domesticated Animal craft a the proper Suppository, then Lubricate it by selecting a Star Jelly from your inventory and right-clicking it onto the Suppository and selecting "Lubricate". You may now select the Lubricated Suppository and right-click it onto the Diseased animal.
