Clams were received by chance from a baited Shellfish Trap placed in Deep. Selecting a Butcher Knife and right-clicking it on a Clam will pry it open. Prying open a Clam will give you Raw Clam Meat, a Clam Shell, and rarely a Giant Clamshell
