About
 Lifting any  Boulder that has sat long enough on the surface may reveal  Beetles,  Grubs, a  Salamander, or rarely, a  Creepy Centipede or  Scorpion, hidden beneath them.
Excavation Skills
Over-world Boulders
 Granite Boulders and  Stone Boulders are found scattered across the surface of the New World or alternatively removed from  Mountains and  Quarry using  Any Shovel and  Dig. With  Any Axe or  Any Pickaxe equipped right-click a Boulder and select "Chip" to receive up the appropriate  Any Stone. When Chipping any Boulder there is a chance to receive a  Sterling Geode,  Whetstone at the same Purity as the Boulder, or rarely an  Arcane Amethyst during a  Blood Moon. Alternatively you may load any Boulder into a  Stamp Mill, or blow it up with a  Lit Boomstick, these ways are faster but will not yield any rares.
 From left to right, 100x, 25x, 15x, 10x and 5x Lime pieces. With the Quarrying Skill learned, and Any Shovel equipped, you can Dig  Lime Boulders from a  Lime Pit. Lime Boulders come in variable sizes, with the bigger Lime Boulders giving more  Lime when Chipped, ranging from 5 up to 100. The size of your Lime Boulder is based on chance, your  Mines & Mountains Proficiency, and whether or not you have learned the Ambitious Excavation Skill. Rarely you will Dig up a very small Lime Boulder. Chipping this Lime Boulder will give you a single  Little Limestone. When used in place of Lime in a  Ore Smelter, a Little Limestone will increase the number of  Bar of Any Metal that are produced. Each Lime Boulder Dug from a Lime Pit will lower the terrain slightly. If the terrain is too step you will be unable to Dig further, making it possible to exhaust a Lime Pit of Lime.
Exploration Event Boulders
 Obsidian Boulders can be found rarely in the  Crag biome. An Obsidian Boulder can be Chipped to receive  Obsidian. Select Any Stone and right-click it onto a piece of Obsidian to receive either  Obsidian Fragments or an  Obsidian Arrowhead.
Ore Boulders
With the Mining Skill learned and Any Pickaxe equipped, clicking the  Mine action will change your cursor into a pickaxe, which can then be right-clicked on any wall within a  Mine Entrance to begin Mining. The Phlegm this will drain is dependent on what Mine level you are on and can be lowered by increasing your Mining Artifact Bonus. Chipping an Ore Boulder will give you the appropriate  Any Ore or  Rubble.
Whale Boulders
Whale Boulders are Boulders only found inside of a  Sperm Whale. These Boulder generally block your path to escape so they must be removed in order to progress. Unlike most Boulders a  Pile of Excrement cannot be Lifted.
Chip stone
With Any Axe or Any Pickaxe equipped, right-clicking an  Ambergris Boulder and selecting "Chip stone" will give you  Ambergris.
Dive In
Right-clicking a Pile of Excrement and selecting "Dive In" will give you a  Whale Excrement and rarely a  Pinocchio's Nose.
CAUTION! Diving In to a Pile of Excrement adds a lot of Insanity.
Boulder Damage
Each Boulder does a different amount of Blood damage when fired from a  Catapult.
